Tokyo shoe brand Grounds took over H. Lorenzo’s Sunset men’s location to launch their latest in dimensional Japanese footwear. Just in time to launch the holidays Grounds brought abstract art installations, and a touch of Japanese street markets to LA with a pop-up. The launch of the subversive shoe at the multibrand retailer signaled the first retail outlet in LA to feature the shoes. The installation from the window display featured rotating shoes and scaled up sculptures.
About the pop up designer Mikio Sakabi said, “H. Lorenzo is known for its pioneering spirit, and curated sought-after international brand mix, and we are very excited to have this opportunity to introduce grounds to the Los Angeles community. Grounds’ experimental and elevated aesthetic brings a new unexpected addition to the streets of LA.”
The installation takes over the prime basement level of the H Lorenzo Men’s store, building out a Tokyo street market in the space featuring neon lights and a kaleidoscopic signage. Every table and available surface was healthfully scattered with Japanese candies and treats. For the opening night the store blared with hyperpop provided by ko aka koala while an eclectic array of the night time’s brightest stunted and provided life to the street market backdrop.
