Le Bang is rapidly emerging as one of the bands to see in this current moment of NYC musical renewal. Taking inspiration from stylish aughts bands like Sexy Sushi and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, as well as their punk forebearers Siouxsie and the Banshees, Le Bang adds a cheeky edge to the mix through frontwoman Lola Lancon’s winking vocal delivery. Born in Paris but a New Yorker through and through, Lancon is at times droll and sarcastic and at other times ferocious, bringing to mind a young Karen O. The trio, rounded out by drummer Billy Hay and bassist Stavros Lari, tear through Lancon’s effortlessly catchy melodies as if racing to fit as many hooks into two minutes as they can.

“Fashion Police” is Le Bang’s hilarious take on pretentious haute couture, and those who fall for its trappings. Directed by Persia Beheshti, it is a campy, nightmarish image of fashion authority, with references pulled from vintage Vogue editorials, “Blade Runner,” the Milk Bar in “A Clockwork Orange,” and the “Hunger Games.” The scene unfolds in a surrealist fashion HQ, a kind of department-store compound where victims get dragged in and interrogated for making unstylish choices.
